IUCRP Steering Committee Approves a New Budget
Supplementation Policy
On October 22, 2001, the IUCRP Steering Committee approved a new budget
supplementation policy that is retroactive to May 1, 2001.
Under the new policy, the budget of an active UC Discovery Grant
may be supplemented with additional funds provided by the private
sponsor(s) of that grant. Additional IUCRP matching funds can also
be awarded within the usual policies on matching amounts, if all
of the following conditions are met:
- the financial supplementation provided by the private sponsor must
be at least 80% cash;
- an amendment to the original research proposal must be submitted
and must be peer reviewed by the original Primary and Secondary Reviewers
to determine that the amendment plan enhances but does not substantially
change the scope of work;
- the amount of the combined supplementation (i.e., including both
the Private Sponsor and IUCRP contributions) does not exceed 25% of
the
combined Direct Costs presented in the original proposal;
- the additional research plan must be completed within the original
grant period;
- requests for supplementation must be submitted within the regular
schedule of proposal submission deadlines (i.e., three times a
year) so that their merit might be judged competitively alongside
incoming research proposals and considered within available funding.
