Virginia (Ginny) Cox is a Research Development Officer with the Industry-University Cooperative Research Program. As part of the outreach team, Ginny helps to build partnerships between industry and UC researchers in five strategic areas of science and engineering. She makes frequent visits to the UC campuses and attends many conferences and workshops, helping investigators and potential industry R&D partners to learn more about the UC Discovery Grant.

She was previously a Program Associate at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation where she worked primarily on Science and Engineering Workforce Issues. Before that she served as a AAAS Diplomacy Fellow at the U.S. Department of State. There she worked on bilateral science and technology cooperation with Western Europe and multilateral oceans policy issues. While at the State Department, Ginny had the opportunity to work closely with scientists and industry leaders interested in marine and industrial biotechnology.

Ginny received her Ph.D. in Developmental and Molecular Biology from Cornell University; she conducted her thesis research on the role of cell signaling in development of larval muscles in Drosophila melanogaster at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She received a Bachelor’s of Science with honors from Wake Forest University.
